May 27, 2010 at 9:22 p.m. the Windsor Heights Fire Department was notified of a residential assignment at 1430 64th street.  Heavy smoke and flames were reported to dispatch along with an explosion inside the residence.  Assisting with the fire were departments from Clive, Johnston, Urbandale, and West Des Moines.  Crews from Windsor Heights and Clive made an interior attack but were unable to make it to the seat of the fire due to smoke and heat conditions.  Evacuation of the residence was made due to deteriorating conditions.  Shortly after the evacuation there was partial roof collapse. The master stream from  Ladder 215 ( West Des Moines) and several handlines were able to get the fire under control.  Thanks to all of our neighboring Fire Departments for you time and effort on this fire.  We could not have done it without you.
