On July 10, 2012, a 2nd Alarm fire broke out at the Windsor Heights Hy-Vee on University Ave. Smoke was seen pushing out of the roof and when fire crews arrived, smoke and fire was seen coming out the roof on the backside of the building. The fire was in the back mechanical room of the building. The building had a sprinkler system and three sprinkler heads were activated which helped to suppress the fire. Engine crews were sent inside and a ladder company was sent to the roof to help with ventilation. The fire was fully extinguished within an hour. There were no injuries from the incident.
